As I see it, there are a lot of cultures on the planet, and they are developing at different rates of progress. I don't see any reason why highly developed cultures should be obliged to respect, satisfy, or accommodate the unsavory practices of backward cultures. It is probably not necessary to cite examples, but one would be the circumcision of females, and another would be the slaughtering of elephants for their tusks. I would suspect that somewhere in the South American jungles, there may still be isolated cultures that practice cannibalism. I think that if enlightened cultures have any obligations to other cultures, a paramount one is to take a firm stand against abuse of their own species or other species. Lines need to be drawn somewhere, and someone has to draw them.
