You close your cantina for the weekend? <g>

With all of this "bear talk", I recall an occurrence last January. The better half and I took a little stroll. About two blocks from our domicile and between two houses, a wooded trail begins. From there, it wends its way up to the southern ridge of the vale we call home. After traversing about a block's distance up this trail, the better half exclaims "What's this?" I look down to where the end of her walking stick is slowly circling. There in the moist earth of the trail, some three blocks from our house, is the unmistakable paw print of a bear.

This past Wednesday in the gloom that immediately precedes dawn, the gentleman that delivers our paper spied a female mountain lion sauntering up our block long cul de sac road. It was coming from the river (just below the end of the cul de sac) and headed for the trail to the ridge.

Given these occurrences and that the wild turkeys have become regular visitors (saw them again when I got the paper this morning), I'm having to reassess just how far into the boonies I am.

p.s. Some "summer reading" for those that have the time.

I would have mentioned it earlier, but it came out while I was taking my market sabbatical.
