John, why are you so happy when someone is "Badmouthing" our country? Especially when they are doing it at a time, and in a manner, that seems to "Justify" what Al Queda has done? Don't you realize that this is why people on the "Right" get so angry with people on the "Left?"
You really do get on a kick, don't you, Bill. You keep putting words and thoughts into my posts that I don't say and don't have.
We are a country with a certain history of intolerance for "others." We are not the only country that has such. Off hand, I can't think of any country that doesn't have them. One can, in fact, argue, as a famous sociologist, Emile Durkheim argued, that social solidarity requires boundaries which requires otherness, which is another way of saying intolerance. I find that much too mild a statement but it's much the same sociological observation.
Given that we have that history, it's important that educational institutions do as much as they can to reduce intolerance against Muslims.
As for why some people on the right get so angry with some people on the left, that's a problem that the angry ones will have to address without my help. It's not my problem; it's there's.
Nothing that I've said comes even close to justifying Al Q. That's just another way the angry right thinks that politics is about destroying your opponent. "Oh, yes, here comes another opportunity; perhaps we can beat up on them with that one."
I consider that approach to politics a curse on a civilized polity. Shame on them. |
