John, it's also a shame that, in a forum where moderation is emphasized, that under cloak of civil discourse, debate tactics of undermining those one disagrees with - putting words in one's mouth, as you say - is not considered personal or off topic.

Were it the Left questioning why the Right is so happy with the blood lust that they can justify the deaths of collateral civilians without evidence to warrant an offensive, that would be labelled a personal attack and draw a tut-tut.

Rather than personally offensive debate tactics, why is there not more discussion of facts instead of opinions? Or do facts become inconvenient when there's a shortage of them?

Lately, the way several have verbalized that they're filling in for a vacationing person sounds less like a discussion forum and more like a combat maneuver, filling in for the 'fallen comrade'.

I get so confused sometimes and need clarification: is this a discussion forum where objectivity and inquiry is in pursuit of the best solutions, or is it a sandbox for cops n' robbers role plays?
