For three years I was a site manager for IBM “Burlington Vermont”. I worked for GSTC and latter ASM “companies in the diffusion part of the business” (vertical ovens). There in Burlington, I enjoyed many days canoeing on Lake Champlain as well as running my 16 foot Glasstron, a 40 HP outboard. While canoeing, I never traveled beyond 200 – 300 feet from shore. The water changed very fast in Lake Champlain. Once I ran up from Burlington north about three hundred yards off shore. After about six miles in the open bow Glasstron, I turned around to head home. I encountered four-foot bow waves covering by bow almost every wave. After taking on 20 – 30 gallons, I traveled close to the shore and nursed by way home. I never did that again. Your trip in New York’s harbor sounds dangerous, but so does having a corbra on your head. Good luck. Stan
