Bill -- interest rates are correlated with business cycles -- just not as strongly as are energy prices. As I said moments ago -- AG underestimated the persistence of high energy prices while he was trying to deflate the bubble with higher interest rates. The economy could have taken EITHER higher rates OR higher energy prices, but not both at the same time. He then waited a few months too long to start cutting rates. By then the "hard landing" was baked into the cake. No matter -- the stocks you owned were set to crash in any event -- and crash they did. If you had seen the recession coming, you could have avoided the losses.
