Do you think that "strong leaders" knew that the war in Vietnam would lead to the national division that occurred? The leaders who took us into the Vietnam war were anything but "strong". LBJ, McNamara, and Westmoreland led our guys to slaughter because of their weakness. Also, I might add, there was little opposition to our involvement in Vietnam early on; the opposition really formed AFTER the weak leaders had walked away from their mess.
