Mead Shumway was executed in 1909. There are a few cases from the early 20th century in question, including Shumway. But Shumway's innocence is by no means a fact. The only evidence of the confession is from an article in the 1919 issue of the Journal of the American Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology.

Nevertheless, I don't think any innocent person has been executed in the last 50 years.
