Yesterday in my weekly phone chat with my 89 year old, life-long, die-hard Republican father, he got talking about the number of Mexicans dying crossing the border. (He's in Tucson.) In the course of that, somehow he mentioned that he didn't think there should be a death penalty. I had never heard him say anything about the death penalty before so I listened up. He said he didn't think the government should be taking anyone's life. His simple explanation for his POV was "because I'm a conservative."

My ol' dad can still be pretty sharp.
