I finally watched Monster's Ball. Very challenging. It took all the familiar opposites and brought them together to the recognition that people have everything in common. Skin colour, circumstance, socio-economic realities aside...they all shared emotional pain, and they all fought demons placed in their heart by parentage and circumstance.

The sexual prostitute scenes depicted the impersonal "fulfillment" sought by those whom have built a wall that may not be climbed. The deadening cover of cigarettes, alcohol, ice-cream, and candy.

And when she meets her grief and her need it is almost like the old "primal scream" encounter between self and other.

A movie contrived to make certain points...but touching, moving, and informative nonetheless...
