amseybold: I read your article re: europes solution rests with adoption of GSM/1X . You also suggest that it won't happen. I agree. However, I don't think it matters. The EU is a niche market in the worldwide view of things. With the failure of WAP, GPRS and now WCDMA. their influence on the rest of the GSM world is nil. They have been checked. Checkmate to follow soon.

I believe there are 2 possible major events that will surely seal the fate of the GSM/GPRS/EDGE/WCDMA migration path to 3G.

1) When China Mobile adopts the GSM/1X path and
2) When Bell South sells its interest in Cingular and buys Nextel (already on the cusp of CDMA) and T Mobile ( an easy upgrade to GSM/1X).

Any other events pale by comparison.

Latin America is already moving to CDMA with Bell South and Telefonica doing the pushing.

India, Eastern Europe, and the rest of the Asian subcontinent is going CDMA. Australia and New Zealand too.

Love your opinion and any others on the thread.

PS. I never thought to ask, but, does GSM/1x work????
