GSM 1X works and your thoughts are interesting--the issue is that many anaylst's look to Europe as the "hotbed" of wireless and see it as a leading indicator of what is going to happen elsewhere--and don't forget that Cingular and AT&T convinced their boards to go the GSM/GPRS route because GSM is a "world" standard with over 70% market share in the 2G world--having said that, I don't subscribe to your thoughts on BellSouth buying Nextel--and I believe that Nextel may not be as committed to 1X as they once were--they have trialed Flarion's stuff with a lot of success--having said that I believe that once BS is free of Cingular they will go after Sprint (all of it) and/or just the PCS part of it--it fits better with what they are doing in LA>
