Brian-- I too, took advantage of the free kayaking. As a native NYer I still get a thrill from the cityscape. I also can't believe how recreationally underutilized the Hudson River is. Also, fyi, the only true river on the E Coast is the Bronx River, the rest being estuaries. Bronx Park, near where I grew up, has waterfalls and has been cleaned up. Try it either from the park, from the zoo, or from the botanical gardens. Quite lovely and surprising.
