Altera keeps Q3 sales target steady

SAN JOSE, Calif. (CBS.MW) -- Programmable microchip maker Altera kept its third-quarter sales target steady during a scheduled midquarter update Tuesday.


Altera (ALTR: news, chart, profile) shares rose 3 percent to $11.62 on Island ECN after closing down 8.5 percent to $11.31.

Altera said it still expects third-quarter sales to be flat or up 2 percent from the previous quarter.

Analysts had expected sales growth of 1 percent, amounting to sales of $180.7 million, as well as earnings of 6 cents a share, on average.

During the previous quarter, Altera posted earnings of $21.7 million, or 6 cents a share, on revenue of $178.9 million.

Also, Altera's Stratix device family continues to gain acceptance and design wins, according to a statement posted to the company's Web site.
