This is where we started several hours ago. It is too indirect and inappropriate to be that easily explained away. On the one hand you can be protesting US gov't policy and action and on the other you may be advocating an overthrow of the government. It can exist on more than one level.

I agree that protesting is not an assault on America. It is in many cases a healthy way to draw attention to something that needs to change.

"And that is NOT assault. It is perfectly legal.

That is protected political expression. And has been consistently so held by US courts.

I didn't start this argument from a vacuum. I am quite aware of the current status of court interpretation on flag burnings. Speech and treason are entangled. Communication is involved in all aspects of human endeavor. You have to be clear on the lines of communication that violate agreements and so breach trust and loyalties. Freedom of speech comes with responsibility for what is spoken or expressed.

How do you interpret the phrase "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America..."

I have a friend who swears on his eternal soul he will never tell a lie...unless there is some benefit in it.

Reminds me of this debate.
