Conversational Voice Recognition will be supported in the operating system as soon as you have enough MIPS and good software to have it work most of the time. Asking your computer to search out and bring to you information, is not a question of “if” it’s a question of “when”.

The problem of the PC industry is that there are no application which are driving the upgrade cycle. If you believe the “computer is the Network” the most common application remains Internet Explorer, and nothing about IE is driving MIPS.

I basically think Intel is making the same mistakes it made when it ignored the sub $1000 PC market. And I believe these are fresh mistakes, and mistake that Barrett can avoid, but is not.

I don’t expect Barrett to turn around the economy, but part of being a CEO is public relations, and today he caused a major problem in that regard. If nothing else Barrett’s needless comments can themselves become self-fulfilling, as IT manager believe that everyone is waiting, so they don’t pursue their upgrade plans vigorously.

Barrett’s comments today were as if believes he is in a vacuum.

Barrett has and is failing as CEO, if you expect status quo, then Barrett’s your man, But I think investors in Intel deserve more, they deserve a first rate CEO. I would Grade Barrett as “C”.

I still say the Board Directors should remove Barrett, its time for a fresh perspective from the top of Intel.
