"The notion of every 55 yr old now being broke because of tech stocks is a big myth" I can't speak for every 55 year old -- but I can tell you a lot of people I know lost money, and with so many trillions off the top, somebody lost money. A lot of people have mutual funds and funds mediation through institutions -- this is not a direct effect but it is an an effect just the same. People are worried about something -- they are less confident and their confidence dipped sharply as the market declined in recent months.
