I don't recall that any candidate has "pledged iron-clad support for Israel".

In fact, if Israel had "iron-clad" support from the US, there would be no suicide bombers. My idea of "iron-clad" support would be a statement that says that if Palestinians resort to violence against a much stronger adversary, the US would support an Israeli declaration of war against the Palestinians and an Israeli reaction consistent with a state of war. The "iron-clad" support is really for the oil rich, religiously fanatical state that supports extreme religious dogma that directly contributed to the 9/11 attack on the US.
