Don't get me wrong -- I think we need to do what is practical to "wean" ourselves -- but such strategic goals -- even getting 5% - 10% of our energy supplies from different resources doesn't happen overnight.

Right now, fuel cells are simply another way of converting fossil fuel energy into usable work -- in less direct way. Even if you decided this was better than ICEs, you need infrastructure. It's HUGE and COSTLY given what is already in place. Given the current state of affairs it would wind up actually reducing fuel diversity and might even result in more consumption of fossil fuels ...

I'd like to see more money spent on exploration here and in nations more friendly to us as well as "clean coal" technologies. Oil IS going to run out ... and it IS time to plan for that eventuality now, IMO.

We are hostage to oil producers for the next 15 years at least whether we like it or not. That's real.
