Okay......let me think this through. If you have oil, you can barter for food and clothing etc. If you have nothing, you can't barter for anything. Yup.....you're right. Its better to have nothing than to have oil. How could I have been so stupid?!! If WE aren't buying Saudi oil, nobody is. So having the commodity makes them just as dependent on us as we are on them. That's why they haven't had, and don't have, us over a "barrel". While they can sell a fraction of their oil to other places, the reality is that they need us.
