re: "Actual OEM availability is much better, IMO, but unfortunately for AMD, I don't see the Vaporons for sale at HPQ"

AMD never said there was production yet. Their own press release says "AMD has begun shipping samples of the AMD Athlon XP processors 2600+ and 2400+ to major computer manufacturers worldwide with expected system availability in September."

Most big OEMs want a few weeks to shakedown any new chip and may require a significant number of samples(hundreds) to do so. AMD probably will ship production to some OEMs in September, but that may not translate into many system available during the month if any at all. They may actually be getting into what they call volume, thousands, as Intel is shipping 10's of thousands of the 3Ghz PIV.

Let's take it easy on the AMD cheer squad for a while.
