I For One Will Need A Lot More Information Than This marcos:

cbc.ca

And even though I am a big fan of Ret. Gen. L. Mackenzie ( the only one who had Kosovo right - including the Americans )who says basically we have let our guard down so long we couldn't handle a major terrorist attack and we would have little choice,I too am a little apprehensive at this point.

We train, conduct exercises, and fight shoulder to shoulder with our Southern neighbours ( oops--Alaska -g- ), so I don't have problem at all regarding military integration on either side of the boarder.Your concerns and those of Lloyd Axworthy wrt sovereignty is another issue entirely.

However, it must be noted, that it was under Mr.Axworthy's watch that the forces have been led down the slippery path to this inexcusable and embarrassing situation in the first place. So I take his rear view mirror paranoia with about as much concern as he gave the forces during his tenure.

Regarding the earthquake scenario, I agree with you.Canada has sent firefighters South quite a few times over the past few years.Sheesh! It seems like every year lately, and we would expect the same in return.

Up to this point, we have relied on NORAD for continental defense, but that is mostly in the Air theater, which we really don't take much notice of day to day.Our ports are visited regularly by the US Navy, and we visit theirs fairly regularly.

Based on that, we shouldn't become too alarmed by seeing ground forces in the event of a catastrophe, assuming they are fully under Canadian Command at the time.

Anywho, like I say, we should be allowed more information on this plan and have the opportunity to bring it to public debate. Until then, I don't have much more to offer.

Maybe a few others on both sides of the boarder would like to chime in here?
