Cary and Bill,
WW2 was characterized by indiscriminate bombing of civilian areas. Japan in Manchuria, Germany over London come to mind as well as Dresden and fire bombing of Tokyo. It is no surprise that it ended in the horror of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The folks who brought us the terror are ultimately responsibility to what was done to them. The anger toward japan in the US was great and intermeshed with racism. Truman didnt recognize the qualitative weapons difference of nukes but who would have until the first one was used. Vietnam continued the trend sans nuclear. We are better today but anytime bombs are being dropped, some civilians die. I have no answers to this. Mike
