I am making that comparison for two reasons:

1) It is the comparison made in the article that you posted

2) It shows that unit sales are still near the peak. Combined with low ASPs, that gives a clue that this downturn is related to supply rather than demand. That is why we are about to get a double dip.

Oversupply leads to lower prices
Lower prices lead to lower profits
Lower profits lead to lower personal incomes
Lower personal incomes lead to lower demand -> second dip

The financial woe has hardly started yet so don't look too hard for the silver lining.
