It's definitely not a boring day when I agree with all of one of your posts.
This Iraq thing has bothered me from the beginning, as it appears ill-planned and poorly supported. Like a bad stock trade, it's rife with hope and dreams and its probability of success (at least the success we want, which is a quick crumbling of the regime and replacement by a democratic, quality government) is about the same as the Bay of Pigs in 1961.
I'm not saying smart bombs and daisy cutters can't get rid of Saddam, in fact, I think they can, along with a lot of other Iraqis. Unfortunately, as we found out in the Gulf War, winning a battle or a war doesn't always translate 10 years later into doodly squat. After spending oodles of $$$ to win back Kuwait from the oppressors and protect Saudi Arabia, we get zero support from these "allies" and 4 planes full of innocents flown into 3 buildings and the ground.
Isn't it interesting that the generals here are perceived as doves while the politicos are the hawks?
Otoh, Rumsy is a pretty savvy fellow, and I'm inclined to trust him.
