| It certainly makes sense for the individual, and there are many times when anonymity would entail no social harm. On the other hand, there are situations where a background check might be legitimate, or where one's reputation should be available to those around one. However, many people who have a bad reputation don't even need to change their name, they only have to change cities, and it is done with. Additionally, some places require background checks, some don't, and as long as it is possible for the authorities to tap into data bases, one is not obliged to seek out those organizations that are nosy. Thus, overall, it seems a reasonable thing to do, to get a fresh start....... |
