Reminds me of the argument I have seen advanced that we cannot possibly object to Saddam having nukes because Israel has'em and it just wouldn't be fair.

But that's not what I said. In my several hundred posts on the thread you will never find support of that kind of "fairness" argument. I am against a unilateral Iraq invasion by the USA because it would set a precedence of breaking international conventions and law. It would mean a return to power politics, as in the period leading to WW I. The world would likely see an escalation of regional conflicts. What would prevent China from invading Taiwan one day? What Russia from occupying former USSR members?

If the UN Security Council decides that there should be an international action against Iraq I wouldn't oppose it, and that's where I differ from the position of the current German government.
