My opinion is that they won't try to push HDTV on anyone, they'll
wait for consumer demand. I don't believe that any current settops
(GIC or others) support HDTV yet, but they probably will be "HDTV
ready" within a few years. At some point the cable operators may
be able to offer a premium lineup that consists of a variety of
offerings in HDTV format, for customers willing to fork over the $$$.
I'm not sure how the economics of advertising supported HDTV make any
sense. They will have to trade off the premiums obtained for HDTV
programming with the loss of channel capacity relative to SDTV.
