My gosh, E. They must be terribly frightened. I, too, wish they'd moved. One of the most difficult and insidious elements of PTSD is the propensity toward retraumatization. Anniversaries are primary triggers.

I read recently (and was discussing this with a new friend) that it is estimated that 11% of people in NYC last September 11th meet the diagnostic criteria for PTSD. That's thousands of people walking around irritable, unable to think clearly at times, not sleeping well, experiencing digestive problems, fearful.....

And interestingly, in the same article, it was discussed that many people across the country have traumatic symptoms simply from watching television coverage of that day.

And yet, I've seen some recent posts on SI (particularly on a thread which shall remain nameless) in which the posters deriding PTSD. It's no joke to the thousands of people who labor under it.
