I know there are a lot of "Environmentalists" on this board who think I am a nut case about this subject. I would love to see them defend this behavior. Do they think that feeding Africans genetically altered food that they themselves are buying in American SuperMarkets is going to hurt the Africans?
Well, if we discuss whether you are a nutcase or not, that could be fun.
As for the situation, I don't know squat, save what I read in the papers and see on the toob. However, there are two other explanations running around. First, the fear that genetically modified corn would destroy the local varieties and leave the population even worse off. And, second, that some serious portion of the local crop is routinely exported to Europe but the Europeans won't accept, bless them, genetically modified corn.
Knowing all this, I fail to see why the Bush administration could not have sent just regular ol' corn.
Oh, by the way, I have my copy of the Eliot Cohen book on civilian military relations. I'm impressed. Recommend. It applies regardless of political orientation, is well written, very focused. I'm going slowly. Haven't decided whether to buy or not. But it's in the running. |
