Niether French nor Russians have any love lost for Saddam Hussein, it is simply question of self interest. French, Total-Fina have large interest in Iraqi's petroleum industry! They well know that with Saddam out of the way, there interests will be worthless. US companies are lined up to pick-up the pieces and do business with Pro-American Iraqi government. The same that happened in COngo once Mobutu was overthrown. Gongo left the French sphere influecne and became a US charge. Maybe rich conoglese still go to Paris to shop, but the actual government is no longer under French influence.
The same goes for Russians, once Saddam is out, the new government will no accept to pay 10 biilion dollars they owe to Russian.
Russia and France do not call the shots in Iraq. It is the duty of the only super power in the world to bring Iraq in line and ensure that a country that controls 10% of total world reserve of oil does not become a atomic power. Once Saddam has the bomb, he can threaten Saudi Arabia, Iran and other UAE, and above all Israel. They only way to stop Saddam then will be a pre-emptive nuclear attack on Saddam that nobody could afford. All the bleeding hearts that are warning Unites States against attack on Iraq, have only to gain from Saddam Hussein keeping his grip on power. But then they were not have to pay for devestating attack on Sept. 11. I believe, President Bush is correct in attcking Iraq as soon as possible. Once Baghdad and Basra are free, the same Arab nations that officailly oppose to US invasion will be glad that Saddam is gone.
Saudis, Kwaitis, and Egyptian leaders privately have told the United States that they are happy to see Saddam go. But they have to pay lip service to millions of the WOGs that live in these countries (people like Gus-"Mohammad e- Masri", Or Len-"Raja Kapur Begnali!" Like it or not, Saddam is a walking dead and he knows it. Bush can not back-off at this point. |
