We hold up our children to wave at passing fire engines and we're honoured when the fire fighters wave back. We wave because we love the way they love their work. We wave because their firehouses are oases of stability and continuity in this ever-changing city. We wave out of love.
It's not OT at all. People keep posting that the WAT is all about making the world safe for Big Oil, the Carlisle Group, Zionist Imperialism, and other bogus bilgewash. Why is it OT to tell it like it really is?
Maybe if the next terrorist attack was in, say, Oregon, SR might change his tune about beating up neocons - or if it was in, say, Berlin, Jochen would quit talking about "hidden agendas" - or maybe in New Jersey, JohnM would quit wondering whether the Bush administration was trying to hoodwink him.
Not that I wish that on anyone, but you can't blame me for wishing that it wasn't Washington, D.C. I am trying to get a federal job at an agency which shall be nameless but is based in D.C., and if I get it one of my priorities will be to teach my children how to fend for themselves if my husband and I don't come home some day. |
