You can go read up on it all at the various chip tech sites. I think the fact that HP (which up until now was one of the biggest devotees of Intel's 64-bit approach) and Dell (normally an Intel-only shop) are rumored to be looking at it tells us something. Also the fact that it is known Intel has had to scramble to put together a project (Yamhill) to copy the AMD approach tells us something.

I don't expect Opteron to be some kind of super threat, or to take a really big piece of the server market from Intel, but I had to take exception at your pronouncement that Intel has somehow pulled away.
