Spiegel has some great coverage on the flooding in europe and germany. of course not the only place to read.

the flood btw... may possibly be the straw that breaks germany's back. the ramifications of the flood costs are quite possibly going to push germany into an inflationist/deficit spending stance for the first time since the weimar republic...and either end the euro relationship in time or drag the whole union into the same..... in its enormity... the flood costs are equal to the entire cost of german re unification to date... something that has already ruined the german national budget... now double that factor... among other things.

and add the entry of the poor eastern european lands to the union... this is going to go classic in time.

the 10 and 20 year investment horizon just keeps getting more and more oblique with every event.
