Mine do not say anything. Meaning I never know there is a post. Maybe Craig is not posting here anymore and I have forgotten how it worked. It is not important.

"Hey- hows your business going these days Glenn, business picking up a little?"

On-line business is picking up quite well including a little better margins. The margins could not have been much worse comparatively<G> We are close to flat on in store sales. That says a lot due to the fact we typically have a sizable increase year after year. I know the consumer is spending less in my industry in my area due to the attrition of many competitors that were too leveraged going into a recession. The business they had has to be going elsewhere and since we are not showing an increase, I am assuming the total pie is smaller this year. One last factor to consider is average ticket price. That is down 20%. I assume due to the consumer's lack of confidence in the near term future.

I had planned to semi-retire at the end of this year and let my son take over from here. I do not see that happening mostly due to my feeling he needs more experience particularly in this challenging climate. He only has 3.5 years of experience and I believe the dual channel selling, reduced consumer confidence, etc. warrants another year for me to make sure his future is secure. I do not claim to have all the answers by any means but experience is sure a help.

I hardly know anyone that is self employed with a successful ongoing business anymore. Everything seems to be chain operations, etc. Are there many independnat successful businesses in your area now? I am assuming this is a trend.
