I can't share in your grief, since my feelings for fish are somewhat on the same order as my feelings for quartz rock outcroppings, but I can accept that you are grieving and feel sympathy, if not empathy.

That's the best I can do.

If you want to talk about something else, I did try to get a discussion going on slavery and Greek civilization, but it didn't generate much excitement.

Maybe Marie will assign it for an essay topic, so we can get some more perspectives.
