There are many apologists throughout history. People always forget that in the UK in the 30s that there were many decent well-meaning pacifists who were willing to overlook the rise of fascism in germany as having little impact on their normal lives.

Germany is too far away, why should we care what the nazis do to their own people or to their neighbours. Think of the ethics of war : sending our young to die on a foreign soil fighting young german children? Many forget even that the Americans themselves until Pearl Harbour were not interested in fighting the germans or the japanese.

The real surprising thing about this is that there was a clear attack on the soil of america and there are still large numbers who still recoil at the thought of war. Forget it, war was brought to your doorsteps. After 9/11, this war is now one of the right to exist.

To bring an old cliche, there are two opposite views of the world : the manipulators who use muslim fundamentalism to further their own goals vs the western liberal democracies. Twenty years from now, only one will exist. Which one is it?
