A great discussion piece, Karen.

These little memorials started to creep up on the Massachusetts highways a few years ago...and then there were more and more placed along the roadside. It was not uncommon to see a car pull up on the right shoulder as people darted across a busy road, ducking traffic, to place new flowers on their tragic spot. Little collections of plastic flowers began to be commonplace.

A nice thought originally became a dangerous precedent. I believe that the state has banned any further memorials on the roadways. IMO, we can all remember our dead without littering the countryside.
