The yellow zone is considered moderate by the EPA, and the Orange zone can be unhealthy for those in sensitive groups (like people with asthma or other respiratory conditions). Only red or worse is considered generally unhealthy. I don't think we had any days of purple "Very Unhealthy" or maroon "Hazardous".


Tim, first, the 50 to 70 days were days that were either in the orange or red zones and not the yellow. Secondly, do you know which people make up the sensitive groups? Its not just people with asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Its also children under 14 and the elderly. I assume you consider these people important and for them, orange days are "really bad" air days.

Once again, DC has a serious air pollution problem as do many large cities in this country.
