Fred,
That was a good post. I have often said that at heart i am a socialist. I am also a pacifist. I wait for a time where i can be both. But i am also a realist and in the face of the enemies we face i will not be the first to lay down my arms based on the promises of a bin laden or saddam. Also socialism can only work when plenty is achieved and folks can really share the fruits of all our labors without greed. I dont expect to see either in my lifetime but i hope for that for my kids and grandkids.
I have dialogued with many muslims since 9/11. I have nothing against the religion. As for the Palestinians I support their right to control their own destiny. I felt Barak gave them that chance but even if not, passive resistance not terror is the only answer that has a chance for success. I was very encouraged to see prominent palestinians opposing terror on moral grounds. That needed to happen. I am still hoping that bush can pull this off and that this apparent confusion in policy both on Palestine and Iraq will give way to a successful policy and result. Being a liberal(small l) and somewhat of an intellectual(small i) my knee jerk reaction to bush has been negative except for post 9/11 when he rose to the occasion and beyond. Now that september is here again, i am hoping that this will happen again. Mike
