Silicon Graphics Says Revenue From Government Jobs Will Grow
By J.S. Dhaliwall

Kuala Lumpur, Sept. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Silicon Graphics Inc., whose computers create digital images for training pilots and making movies, said sales from government jobs will rise in coming months as demand slows from private companies.

Silicon Graphics ``has always been involved with the government, especially in the defense area, and now that percentage has crept up to about 30 percent'' of sales and may keep rising, Chief Executive Bob Bishop said in an interview with Bloomberg Television. ``At this particular time in the economy, it's a good business to have.''

Bishop declined to comment on the impact the slowing demand from non-state companies would have on earnings in the first quarter ending Sept. 30. Previous sales guidance has been between $255 million and $270 million. Revenue in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2002 was $285 million.

The company's servers and work stations are used by Hollywood studios to create special effects in movies. Its equipment was used by Dreamworks SKG studio in the making of ``Shrek,'' which won an Oscar in March for best animated feature- length film.

Bishop was in Kuala Lumpur as part of a panel that advises Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on ways to promote the country's $3.4 billion technology park known as the Multimedia Super Corridor.
