OT Ed, that's exactly what the cops told me to get I use cheap ammo for practice. I have some "special bullets" for when I really have to use the gun. I got the snub nose so I could carry it easier if I must though I realize the longer barrel would be more accurate. If I have a problem, it will be close up so it's not that important. I also have a dog now who's a great gaurd dog besides being sweet. I just wish he'd quit alerting me to trespassing squirrels and possums in the wee hours of the morning. I haven't had a Jehovah's Witness at my door since I got him ;-)
