As I said, he was viewed as a lesser evil, and Iran as the greater threat.

I am not sure what we sold him, but I will take your word for it. In any event, we gave him help.

Actually, the lesser- evil thing has worked wonderfully well. Because of it, we defeated Hitler; we prevented Soviet domination of the Middle Eastern oil fields, which would have given them practical control over the world; we kept most of the Third World from joining the Soviet Camp; and we eventually won the Cold War......
