The fact that a platform executes trades in an electronic environment is no longer a competitive advantage. The competitive advantage lies in what comes along with that platform - that is where the various players must differentiate themselves.

And that's the entire issue at hand. The suggestion that differentiation will even be a factor is, or should be, tough to say with a straight face. Under the SuperMontage plan, the various market participants are essentially forced to engage in business within a framework defined by a quasi-governmental regulator who, backed by governmental regulators, will simultaneously be competing against them.

Von Mises would have a field day with this. :-)
