1. If there was no oil in Iraq and surrounding countries there would be no US interest in the region at all -- that is a simple fact of life.
2. A majority of Americans are likely to support an invasion, although we are likely to be appalled at the price we pay, both in the short term and in the long term.
3. Our "regime change" policy clearly defies World public opinion. We could have done far better at getting others on board - but we did little more than send Cheney to pay visits on a handful of leaders - and it turned out he accomplished nothing. It is astonishing how little we have done to build a coalition to support "regime change".
4. As a matter of policy, Bush has made it clear that we will not tolerate a hostile regime with nuclear weapons capability in the middle east oil patch. To Bush, SH is as good as dead.
5. Anybody who does not think this is related to oil is an idiot.
