World War II, got the US out of the depression. The buildup in Europe actually started in the late thirties and put lots of Americans back to work.

well, times sure weren't the same then. first, a war with Iraq isn't likely to be a lengthy affair. We aren't going to spend years building fleets of airplanes, ships, guns, ammo, clothes, and whatever else a war takes. Now it takes a few planes, tanks, precise bombs. Further, I'm guessing debt wasn't a problem then. It is now.

I don't think a war will help us much when it comes to getting out of this morass. BWTFDIK?
