US Indian desert trackers to stop Euro terrorists

ananova.com

Native American customs workers are sharing their tracking skills with Eastern European colleagues.

Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian officials hope they'll help them stop nuclear, chemical and biological weapons smugglers.

The Shadow Wolves have used their desert tracking skills to help stem the flow of drugs across the Mexican border for three decades.

Three members of the 21-person unit have spent three weeks in the Baltic states.

They have trained customs officials, border guards and national police in how to detect and follow those suspected of carrying weapons components.

Other Shadow Wolves travelled to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan earlier this year.

The unit, based in Arizona, consists of 19 men and two women, all Indians from nearly a dozen tribes around the US.

"They have been a great asset," said Joseph Delgado, assistant tribal police chief. "They've helped us numerous times in everything from tracking down suspects in stolen vehicles to finding missing child."
