ny.frb.org When Canadians buy oil from Saudi Arabia they may pay in U.S. dollars and not in Canadian dollars or Saudi dinars, even though the United States is not involved in the transaction. The U.S. isn't Japan. War has been -- and, for the foreseeable future, will be -- used to create demand for the dollar. We force the developed nations of the world to help with the effort.
