The plunderer finally takes her gloves off..Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has criticised US support for President Pervez Musharraf, arguing he was "trampling on democracy" in Pakistan, days ahead of his third US trip in under a year.

"I am troubled by the US support for General Musharraf," Bhutto told to a foreing news agency in a telephone interview Wednesday from Dubai, one of her two homes since going into self-imposed exile in 1998. "I believe that support could prove dangerous for South Asia, for Pakistani people because of (the effects on) democracy, but also for South Asia," she said.

Bhutto's comments came as Musharraf prepared for a six-day trip to the United States, starting Saturday, his third since becoming one of its most vital allies in the war on terrorism.

Musharraf, the army chief who seized power in a bloodless coup in October 1999 and declared himself president last year, has burnished his previously dubious image abroad since the US-led campaign began and won massive aid pledges, cash grants and debt-relief.
