The political brilliance of the Bush team is that they are like a cut-back runner in football. The enemy is backed up by the left-wing press, so they make the appearance of charging in a direction, getting the media traitors to commit, then cutting back against the flow and leaving most of the enemy in the dust.
It works against the modern left wing media's main weakness, fast story deadlines. The writers for the info-babe morons and nightly "commentators" must make conclusions that can be slanted or commented upon, then the next day, it often looks like they just got it wrong.
The net result is a Tom Daschle, stripped of his most effective Marxist/Leninist media artillery, holding up legislation and nominations right into election season, because he's afraid of his base, and doesn't know what else to do-since the normal compromising will be made to look like concession. What's worse he looks like a traitor whenever he opposes Bush on the war or foreign policy. (In reality, he's only a traitor because he's a weasel, and treason comes easy to a weasel). This style, to a great extent, leverages the Carville/Begala/Greenberg propaganda machine against the Dems, because, at the end of the day, they get a very transparent image among the "undecideds" as socialist pin heads who worship America's enemies.
Thus for the Senate campaign ads, the target Dem Senator will be shown smiling, with Traitor Tom morphing in next to him, making them look like brothers.
